Building Construction II

Project 1 : Skeletal construction (Temporary Bus Shelter)

In a group of 5, we are to construct a temporary bus shelter with the following requirements :

- Scale 1:5 (Max height x base is 600mm x 400 mm x 800 mm)

- Must clearly define all building components such as roof, column, walls and floor and elevated at least 50 mm from ground

- Joints are constructed to reflect the actual joints

- Test - the completed shelter will be tested to withstand lateral forces. In actual situation, from wind and earthquake or any horizontal forces.

An analysis on the design, construction progress and test results are to be provided in a A3 bound report.

Project 2 : Understanding Forces in Building Construction

In a group of 3, we selected Rosa Parks Transit Center as our building for tensile construction. We were to identify the structural systems used in the construction of the building and identify the system in terms of Function, Material and Load distribution. An A3 based model and 2 A2 sized boards were required for submission.
