Project 1 : ON-SITE SKETCHING AND TONAL VALUES

As our first project, we were to sketch 4 different spaces within the campus. First, we took pictures using our phone cameras to show our tutors which perspectives we wanted to sketch. After finalizing the final four photos, we applied various methods of architectural sketching such as lineweight, hatching, scale and proportion.

Project 2A : ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTIONS : PLANS, SECTIONS, ELEVATIONS

Project 2A was a mock project to let us practice drawing our drawing tables first before using the case study. We took one week to complete the table drawing.

Then, we used Esherick's House as our case study. We took one week to finish two floor plans, 4 elevations and 2 section drawings.

The Final outcome (scanned version) :

Project 2B : AXONOMETRIC PROJECTIONS

For this week, we were to complete a fully exploded axonometric drawing of the case study.

Project 2C : PERSPECTIVES

On the final week of Project 2, we had to sketch a perspective and sectional perspective of the Esherick House.

Project 3 : FINISHING AND PRESENTATION

Project 3 of Design Communication integrates with the final project of Design Studio I. We were to make a complete set of orthographic drawings of our studio project.

REFLECTION :

Design Communication was my favourite subject because when compared to computer generated sketches and drawings, I felt that I understood my project much more despite the slow process of manual drawings. Although I am not the best at sketches, hand-sketches are definitely the best graphical medium in expressing our creative thoughts.
